What Makes A Great Hotel Room?

With so many different accommodation options available to the modern day traveller, we thought we should look at what makes a great hotel room. Regardless if you are a business traveller or travelling with a family on holiday, it is necessary for hotels and motels to have extra amenities to cater to their guests.

Fast, Free Wifi

With most people know owning a smartphone, everyone loves to get free WIFI. So it is always an added bonus when it comes free with your room, and in the common areas. It is even better when the hotel uses excellent quality broadbrand that can cater to every guest using it at once and it not slowly down.

A Proper Desk and Quality Chair

Most hotel rooms have something, which passes for a desk, and the chairs often aren’t that comfy either. A great hotel room should have a desk that is suitable for a laptop, a top surface where the mouse will work (not glass) and enough space to put your files. Plus, a comfy chair at the right height for the desk!

Windows That Open

Fresh air is important. Take a shower and the whole room can feel wet from the steam if you can’t open up a window. Or when you just don’t want the air-conditioning on, it’s nice to let the breeze in. In the best rooms you can open a door to the patio to maximize the amount of air flow.

Free in-room refrigerator

Minibars don't count. It's nice to have a place to chill water bottles for the next day, or place groceries for a later meal. For families travelling with infants, or people who need refrigerated medications, the fridge moves up to the "essential" list. It’s even better when there is a kitchenette with a microwave and some cooking (and eating) utensils.

High-definition televisions

At the end of the day you want to catch the news or your favourite television show, and it always better on a high-def TV or LCD. It is always a bonus if it’s get free Foxtel and smart cabling for data devices.

The bed

A comfortable bed is absolutely essential, seeing as you only really need a hotel room for two things, showering and sleeping. It really doesn’t matter what else is in the room, as long as the bed is one that can enable a great night sleep.  It is even better if the mattresses are 5-star pillow-top ones like at Kings Park Accommodation.

Everyone has their own personal list of things they look for in a hotel room. What are the things you look for? What’s the coolest gadget, or little treat you’ve found in a hotel room? We would love to hear them, so share in the comments below.

Celebrating Australia Day

Celebrating Australia Day

On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. Whether you’re in the city, on the coast or in a regional area, there are lots of events that celebrate everything that’s great about being Australian.

It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation.  Australia day also marks the anniversary of the First Fleet’s arrival into Sydney Harbour in 1788.

In 2016, the holiday falls on a Tuesday, and the Western Downs has some cracking events for the locals to celebrate with gusto.

In Chinchilla there will be an Australia Day Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at the Chinchilla Historical Museum. For those that slept in there will be an Australia Day Family Fun afternoon at the Museum from 2pm.

Dalby will be having an Australia Day Breakfast and Awards Ceremony from 6am at the Thomas Jack Park. If you are looking for a lunchtime event, then head to Tara for the free Australia Day Luncheon and Family Fun Celebrations from 12pm at the Showgrounds.

Don’t forget if you are travelling through the region then stop in at Kings Park Accommodation to break-up the trip. On Australia Day our communal barbeques will be ready to fire up for a good ol’ Aussie cook-up. So bring your snags and shrimps, get a cold one from the Bistro and enjoy Australia in the Queensland outback. Call us today for an accommodation quote or to making a booking.

Summer Driving Tips to Stay Safe

Summer Driving Tips to Stay Safe

With the school holidays already started and Christmas around the corner, many families will be hitting the road to visit loved ones at the beach, out west or even interstate. If you are planning on a road trip this summer, drive safe and take regular breaks.

Here are our 10 tips to staying safe on the roads:

1.     Stay alert, slow down and stay in control.

2.     Slowdown in adverse weather conditions, maintain a three-second gap between vehicles and longer in poor conditions.

3.     Take a break. If you feel tiredness is taking you over, then pull over and rest up for at least 15 minutes.

4.     Stretch: When you take a break, find a safe place to park your car and step outside to stretch your legs and arms and back.

5.     Limit your speed: Driving at higher speeds requires greater concentration and causes drivers to tire more easily. Speeding is also a major cause of accidents. Did you know that travelling even 10kms over the speed limit will cost you in extra fuel consumption.

6.     Stick to the rules: Knowing and respecting the rules of the road is a key factor in ensuring road safety.

7.     Be equipped: In the unfortunate event of a roadside breakdown, it is important to remain highly visible to other drivers, so make sure you are equipped with a safety kit before you drive.

8.     Do not use your phone: If you must make a call when driving, use a hands-free set. If you do not have one, pull over when it is safe to do so to make that call. And never text and drive!

9.     Never drink and drive – have an allocated driver or catch a taxi.

10.   Break-up the trip – If you are travelling long distances break-up the trip and check into a motel or hotel along the way. Not only will it give you a chance to rest up but you can also use the time to explore an area that you might have just driven past.

If you are heading out west this summer why don’t you break up the trip and stay with us at Kings Park Accommodation. Our friendly staff, delicious home-style cooked meals in the Bistro and comfy rooms will help you restore your energy for the next day of driving. Contact us now for a booking.

Fossicking for Fun in Chinchilla

Fossicking for Fun in Chinchilla

Petrified wood occurs in abundance in the Chinchilla area and is much sought after by lapidary enthusiasts for its quality and colours.

Licenses to enter to fossicking fields can be purchased from the Chinchilla Visitor Information Centre, where you're encouraged to settle in with a Devonshire tea and freshly-made scones on the verandah.

Once you have your license and finished your delicious tea, there are three areas were landowners have given permission for fossicking at specific sites on their properties. Don’t forget to keep a look out when you are driving in the area as great specimens can be readily found beside roads in the area, but collecting is only permitted from the surface in road reserves and digging is not allowed.

Once at one of the three fossicking sites, sedimentary rocks of the Kumbarilla beds of Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous age, which make up part of the Surat Basin, underlie the Chinchilla area. These include mainly sandstones and other fine-grained sediments that are generally deeply weathered.  Most of the petrified wood is found in unconsolidated gravels capping low ridges of the Kumbarilla beds; these are probably remnants of earlier erosion episodes of the sediments, although some may have been transported.

Good specimens of petrified palm have also been collected from the Chinchilla area. Material is easily collected from the ground surface. However, some shallow excavation in suitable areas may also be productive.

Camping is prohibited at the sites, so why not book a night at Kings Park Accommodation Chinchilla. Where you will find cheap accommodation with fantastic facilities and welcoming service. Contact us now to book.
